Police investigate rape in Lancaster city centre

Police have launched an investigation after a report of a rape in Lancaster.

Officers were called at 5.30am on Sunday (May 1) to a report that a woman had been seriously sexually assaulted off Mary Street in Lancaster city centre.

Enquiries are under way and the woman is being supported by specially trained officers.

A police spokesperson said: "We believe this to be an isolated incident and reassurance patrols have been stepped up in the area.

"Anyone with information should contact police quoting log 0315 of May 1st. Alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
