Work to renovate Greaves Park play park is due to begin this week.
The work to install the new play equipment for the park will get underway after the Friends of Greaves Park secured £60,000 of funding by the way of grants and donations to cover the cost of phase one of the project
The work involves drainage, new wet pour surfacing and new equipment, which they hope will be in place by the end of the year.
This means the play park will be out of action while the work is carried out.
The new area will incorporate individual pieces of equipment, all of which are designed be inclusive, so all children can play together.
A double zip wire will be part of phase two of the improvements, and the group have been awarded a thousand pounds towards this from the Lancaster Community Wellbeing Fund, administered by LDCVS.
The Friends say they will continue to apply for funding for the whole of phase two, until they have the £10,000 needed.
Greaves Park is located just off the A6 and Bowerham Road, and offers a variety of experiences, from a children's play park, two areas of woodland, and two large lawns to relax on or play sport.
