Plans to extend a public car park in Lancaster have been submitted.
There are currently 85 parking spaces at the car park on Edward Street and, if approved, the plans would increase this to 108.
This follows a planning application for a 'change of use of land', by owners Lancaster City Council.
The land is next to the existing Edward Street car park, operated by the council.
It was previously home to Lancaster & District Homeless Action Service. Their longtime portacabin were demolished and permanently removed in 2024, and the service has now moved to a new home in Aalborg Place.
"The application seeks to change the use of the site to extend the level of parking provision at Edward Street car park," said a statement submitted with the plans.
"The site is currently hard surfaced however the surfacing is in poor condition.
"To facilitate use of the land for parking, it is proposed to re-surface the site in new tarmac.
"No new vehicular access will be formed, with access to the proposed carparking area via the existing Edward Street car park.
"New timber bollards are proposed along the roadside boundary, similar to bollards used in other council owned carparks in the vicinity of the application site.
"No new lighting is proposed as part of the proposal."
The council will make a decision on whether to grant planning permission, in due course.
The Edward Street car park is one of the sites being earmarked for possible housing development in future, in a later phase of the council's Canal Quarter plans.
