British Transport Police said a person has been pronounced dead after emergency services were called to Carnforth railway station.
"Officers were called at around 2.30pm today (June 18) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Carnforth railway station," said a British Transport Police spokesperson.
"Officers responded with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Train companies Northern and Avanti West Coast said on Wednesday afternoon that services were currently suspended in both directions.
Services from Windermere and Barrow to Manchester Airport were also affected, and services between Lancaster and Oxenholme Lake District.
Disruption was expected until 6pm on Wednesday.
Rail replacement services were running between Preston and Windermere, and Preston and Barrow in Furness.
