A temporary library will open so residents can continue to access key services while major work continues at Lancaster Central library.
The temporary library at White Cross Business Park on Quarry Road will open on Monday September 14.
It will open six days a week and Lancashire County Council said that people who visit will be able to choose from more than 2,000 books to borrow, use computers and access the internet.
There will also be printing facilities, a children's area and a space for events.
The main library in Market Square is currently closed due to essential work to protect the future of the Grade II listed building, which was built in 1932, and to ensure it can be used for years to come.
Lancaster Central Library is expected to welcome customers back in spring 2027.
Baby Bounce and Rhyme sessions are already running at White Cross and have been well attended on Wednesdays.
Community groups that used Lancaster Central Library are now meeting at The Centre at St Thomas' Church.
"We know how important Lancaster Central library is, and that many people can only access a city centre location, which is why we've been working hard to secure an alternative space for people to borrow books, attend events and make use of our digital offer," said County Councillor Ella Worthington, cabinet member for Civic Pride at Lancashire County Council.
"White Cross Business Park is a short distance away from the library and I'm pleased that groups are already running there and at St Thomas' Church.
"I'd like to thank residents for their patience and support while this essential work is carried out at Lancaster Central library. Because of the scale of the refurbishment and restoration work, the building has to stay closed while it's carried out, but the investment will mean the library can continue serving residents for many years to come."
The opening hours for the temporary library at White Cross are: Monday: 9:30am - 5pm, Tuesday: 9:30am – 4:30pm, Wednesday: 9:30am – 4:30pm, Thursday: 9:30am – 4pm, Friday: 9:30am – 4:30pm and Saturday 9:30am – 5pm.
When the temporary library opens, the extended opening hours at Morecambe library will stop, as these were a temporary measure while the council sourced alternative provision during Lancaster Central library's closure.
People who use Lancaster Central library and have signed up for updates will receive an email or text message about the alternative provision.
Residents can also use other nearby libraries such as Morecambe, Bolton-le-Sands, Halton, Heysham, Carnforth and Silverdale libraries during its closure.

There had been calls from residents for essential services to be maintained and an alternative to be found while the main library is shut.
