A Lancaster detective has written a second children’s book based on the adventures of a teddy bear who becomes a police officer.
The first ‘Inspector Ted’ book was written by Det Sgt Adie Knowles in 2017, and raised more than £2,000 for local charity, Unique Kids & Co.
It features the true story of a teddy bear who was found in Morecambe and goes on many adventures with his local police officers.
The teddy on which the book is based was found in Morecambe by another officer, and despite attempts to reunite the toy with the owner, no one ever came forward – so the teddy ‘joined the team’ and soon became Inspector Ted, and was adopted as the force’s mascot.
As well as raising money for a great local cause, the book aimed to engage with young children and educate them about the role of the police.
The new book will raise money for Team Reece, the Lancaster children’s brain tumour and cancer charity, that was set up in memory of Royal Lancaster Grammar pupil, 13-year-old Reece Holt, who passed away in 2019.
‘’Inspector Ted gets mentioned to me on a regular basis, and people often ask me where is he and is there going to be a second book,’’ Adie told Beyond Radio.
‘’The first book raised a great sum for a great charity, Unique Kids and Co, based in the West End, who assist disabled children and their families.
‘’I’ve written the second book and it will be produced in time to be released at Christmas.
‘’I’ve wanted to do it for a while, but unfortunately life and doing actual police work has got in the way.
‘’The second book will raise funds for Team Reece, and over the coming months expect more of a presence of Inspector Ted as our mascot on our social media channels to raise awareness.’’
