Plans have been revealed for a new skatepark in Heysham.
If proposals get the go-ahead, the new concrete skatepark would be built at Douglas Park on Emmaus Road.
The sports facility would support skateboarding, BMX, scootering, roller skating and wheelchair motocross (WCMX).
A planning application has gone in from Lancaster City Council and as local planning authority, the city council will decide whether to grant planning permission.
The council carried out initial public consultation with the local community in 2024 to discover what type and style of facility they would like.
Then in 2025, they appointed a professional skatepark and public space design and construction company, CANVAS Spaces Limited, to create a concept design.
"All works are to be contained entirely within the existing hardstanding footprint and all construction will take place above ground level," said a report from CANVAS Spaces Limited, submitted with the plans.
"No excavation beyond surface preparation is required, ensuring minimal impact to the surrounding area and existing park infrastructure.
"The new skatepark has been designed collaboratively with Lancaster City Council and the local community.
"Engagement activities included consultation sessions and online feedback opportunities.
"This process ensured that the final layout reflects local needs, user preferences and the available project budget.
"Feedback from these sessions directly informed the arrangement, scale and features of the proposed facility.
"The completed skatepark will comfortably accommodate approximately two to four active users at any one time, with additional capacity supported through the typical ‘taking turns’ approach associated with skatepark environments.
"This ensures safe, inclusive and sociable use of the space while maintaining an appropriate scale for the site.
"The proposed skatepark represents a positive enhancement to Douglas Park. It will activate an underused area, provide much needed recreational opportunities for young people and families. Along with delivering a safe, inclusive, community driven facility. The development is modest in scale, sensitive to its surroundings and aligned with local aspirations for improved outdoor activity spaces.
"Research has found that there is a need for a skatepark in Heysham. The local young people currently have limited access to facilities of a suitable nature to allow them to use their skateboards, BMX, scooters and wheelchairs (WCMX) safely and appropriately."
The plans are publicly available in the planning section of the council website lancaster.gov.uk, reference number 26/00375/FUL.
Lancaster City Council will decide whether to grant planning permission in due course.
