New Electric Vehicle chargepoints have been unveiled at Father’s House Elim Church in Skerton.
The new facility is on the public car park at Father’s House on Owen Road, having been installed by Charge my Street, a Lancaster based social enterprise. The chargepoints were installed and commissioned by BAY EV, a chargepoint installation company based in Morecambe.
They’re aimed at local people without home charging points and visitors who want to charge up during their stay in Lancaster as well as those visiting the church.
Des Deehan, Senior Minister, said: “We discovered Charge My Street through Facebook. The Elim Church is in an impoverished area of Lancaster, with a number of terraced housing and flats, we wanted to make sure those people are able to charge their current or prospective electric vehicles. ”
“We already try to make a difference in the local community by feeding people struggling with food poverty by offering free food every week, the chargepoints fit with the ethos of the Elim Church as a great facility to the local community and visitors to Lancaster.”
“We host a café on a Thursday, for everyone around the local community in the Lancaster & Bay area allowing people to connect. And on the 3rd Sunday of every month, we offer free breakfast to everyone. The chargepoint’s will allow those attending these events to charge their vehicle whilst they connect with the local community”
Daniel Heery, Director of Charge my Street, said “There are now two charge points within 5 minute walk of many of the terraced houses in Lancaster now, so it’s easier than ever to make the switch to an electric car.”
“It’s been fantastic to work with Father’s House for this installation. The Elim church has shown a real desire to do something for their community and that’s been obvious throughout.
“So many of the large charging companies have been focused on installing chargepoints at motorway service stations or in larger towns and cities. This completely neglects those of us who live in small towns or in terraced housing who just want somewhere to park their electric vehicle to charge overnight.
''The more chargepoints like these we get installed in communities like this, the more people will be able to switch to an EV from their petrol/diesel car, cutting carbon emissions and saving themselves money.”
