A housing scheme that allows people to live independently in Lancaster is set to open its doors later in the summer.
St Martin’s Court is set to welcome its first tenants, providing 92 affordable one and two-bedroom modern apartments for rent for people aged 55 and over.
The scheme, developed in partnership with Lancashire County Council, Progress Housing and Lancaster City Council and located on former University of Cumbria land, is designed to support independent living, while having care and support available 24/7 to those who need it.
People who have a care need are assessed by Lancashire County Council and Willowbrook, ensuring they receive the right level of care and support to meet their individual needs, both now and in the future.
Two former military barracks buildings, later used by the University of Cumbria, have been carefully converted into additional one and two-bedroom apartments for affordable housing. The scheme has been built by award-winning Caddick Construction.
County Councillor Tom Pickup, cabinet member for Adult Social Care, said: "This development will give people the chance to live independently in high-quality, affordable homes, with care and support available when they need it.

‘’Grant funding from Homes England has enabled us to deliver an Extra Care scheme that provides high quality, affordable homes designed to help people live independently for longer, with access to care and support when needed."

The allocations process will be managed by a joint team from Progress Housing Group, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council. Willowbrook Care has been commissioned by Lancashire County Council to provide onsite care, with support tailored to each tenant and available 24 hours a day.
