Police said a large emergency services presence in Lancaster was due to a report of a concern for welfare.
Several police vehicles and ambulance services were seen in the Caton Road area of the city on Friday evening and residents also reported seeing and hearing a helicopter over Ryelands.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson said this was due to a concern for welfare call and a woman has been taken to a place of safety.
A concern for welfare call is made when there is an immediate, real and substantial risk to the life and/or a risk of serious injury to a person.
