A popular Lancaster wool shop has opened in a new home.

Hester's Haberdashery opened for the first time today (August 26) at the Assembly Rooms shopping hall on King Street.

The shop closed at its previous location on Gage Street in May, amid plans to convert their building into 30 student studio flats.

Owner Leanne Bisset said at the time that she was "devastated" to have to move, but would be looking for new premises.

Customers in the new shop on Tuesday were clearly delighted to see the haberdashery reopen.

"We've had tons and tons of support," said Leanne.

"There have been some lovely comments and it's been a brilliant first day."

The shop sells a range of sewing and knitting products, and has been established in Lancaster for more than 50 years.

It was previously run by Margaret Leach, and based at Lancaster indoor market. Leanne worked for Margaret in the shop when she was a teenager, and she and her late mother Eileen took over the business around 24 years ago.
