Firefighters have issued safety advice after tackling two blazes in the open in Carnforth this week.
On Tuesday evening (April 1), they were called to a fire in the open in Warton.
A fire had been lit inside a hollow tree causing the whole inside of the tree to be well alight. Crews used a jet to extinguish the fire.
On Thursday evening (April 3), they were called to a fire in the open at Lundsfield Quarry, where a small bonfire had been lit.
Crews used the aqua pack to extinguish the fire.
Crews are reminding people that with dry conditions, fires in grassland, moorland, and wooded areas can spread rapidly.
Here’s how you can help:
Dispose of cigarettes responsibly — never throw them on the ground.
Take litter home — glass bottles can magnify sunlight and start fires.
Avoid using disposable BBQs in the countryside.
If you see a fire in the open, dial 999 immediately and provide as much detail as possible, using an app such as what3words if possible.
Last night (April 3), five fire engines from Lancaster, Morecambe, Bolton le Sands, and the drone attended a fire in the open on Workshop Road, Middleton.
The fire involved a large stack of pallets. Crews used two hose reels to extinguish the fire.
Crews were in attendance for four hours and thirty minutes.
