South Lakes police warn of increase in local rural crime

South Lakes police have warned of an increase in local rural crime.

Officers have conducted far reaching patrols to remote communities as part of Operation Lantern, which is tackling rural crime.

A spokesperson said: "Into the early hours of this morning (Saturday), officers from the South Lakes Neighbourhood policing team, along with colleagues from Eden Police undertook far reaching patrols of some of our more remote communities.

‘’This activity is contributory to the wider #oplantern which is our force action against rural crime.

‘’In the last week, we've seen an increase in thefts across the district.

‘’Like some of those who would seek to commit crime in our area, we are not governed by geographic boundaries and we routinely cross into our neighbouring counties as part of our patrols.

‘’We also regularly work in partnership with those other forces in co-ordinated operations.

‘’You can help us help you by feeding in any suspicious activity you see or hear about. Dodgy cars? Strange behaviours? Unusual activity?

‘’If it stands out to you - we want to know about it!’’

Police can be contacted on 101.
