Striker Tom Hopper opened the scoring for the Imps, before Cole Stockton made it all square with his first of the season.

In a quiet first half with neither keeper tested, Morecambe’s best chance came on the half hour, with a scramble in the area following a deflected effort from Arthur Gnahoua, while at the other end Jack Diamond sent am effort wide.

As the half wore on, Jack Diamond came close with an effort from long-range for Lincoln after being urged to shoot, but it went wide of the near post.

Lincoln broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second half. Caleb Watts gave away a free-kick on the left. Charles Vernam whipped in the kick and Tom Hopper was there to touch it into the net from close range.

The Shrimps equalised 13 minutes later After good play down the right involving Dylan Connolly, Donald Love’s cross from the right wasn’t cleared and Stockton drilled home from inside the area for his first of the season, in his 20th appearance.

Liam Shaw thought he'd grabbed a winner in the final few minutes, as his header from a corner kick looked went just wide of the post.

The match ended all square, with penalties needed to decide the winner.

Jensen Weir, Cole Stockton and Ryan Cooney converted, and with the shoot-out at 3-3 Donald Love saw his penalty saved. Lincoln made it 4-3 before Liam Shaw missed the decisive effort, as Lincoln progressed into the last 16 of the Papa Johns Trophy.
