Morecambe darts players Dave Chisnall and Callum Goffin in Players Championship action

Two Morecambe darts professionals have been in action at the Players Championship in Leicester.

Dave Chisnall and Callum Goffin took part in a field of the best players in the world in two separate tournaments on Saturday and Sunday.

Chizzy was seeded number one in both events, but was eliminated at the quarter-final stage on Sunday and in the last 16 on Saturday.

On Sunday, Welshman and eventual champion Jonny Clayton ousted Chizzy 6-2, after Dave had earlier beaten Dimitri van den Bergh, Rowby-John Rodriguez, Nick Kenny and Lewis Williams.

Left-hander Goffin fired in five 180s but was beaten 6-4 by Luke Humphries, one of the top players in the world, in the second round, after earlier beating Ian White 6-4.

On Saturday, Chizzy was upset 6-4 by Joe Murnan, with former world champion Rob Cross going on to win the tournament. Chisnall earlier defeated Kevin Burness, Josh Payne and Jamie Clark.

Goffin was beaten 6-5 in the last 64 by Ryan Joyce after earlier beating Ryan Meikle 6-5.

The two £100,000 events were held over the weekend at the Morningside Arena where fields of 128 players - comprised of Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Tour Card Holders and PDPA (Professional Darts Players Association) Associate Members - competed across two days of action, with £12,000 on offer to the winner each day.

Chisnall has been in great form this year, capturing two European Tour titles at the Baltic Sea Open and Dutch Darts Championship - and reaching the final of the Czech Open.
