Lancaster City midfielder leaves Giant Axe for league rival

Midfielder Dale Whitham has left Lancaster City to join fellow NPL Premier Division side Ashton United.

Whitham joined the Dolly Blues last summer and has started every league game for Lancaster this season, scoring four goals.

Lancaster City said in a statement: “Lancaster City FC would like to go on record to thank Dale for his contribution this season and wish him all the best at his new club.”

Whitham will be reuniting with Ashton United’s manager Steve Cunningham – the pair were at Curzon Ashton together.

Lancaster City’s next game is a trip to Guiseley on Tuesday (January 17).
