Lancaster City continue great home run with win over Morpeth

Lancaster City beat Morpeth Town to extend their impressive run of victories on home turf.

The Dollies scored a goal either side of half time before the visitors halved the deficit.

Sam Waller made a good stop to deny Andrew Johnson from taking the lead from a one on one situation after a defensive misunderstanding.

Both sides had very few chances until Lancaster took the lead on the half hour mark. Niall Cowperthwaite struck the original effort from the edge of the box, only for Dan Lowson to parry it straight into the path of February’s player of the month David Norris, who made no mistake in putting the hosts in front.

‘Nozza’ would also go on to be named player of the match.

Lancaster, and Norris, could have made it two before the break but Dan Lowson tipped Norris’ powerful effort over the bar.

The Dollies were just as threatening after the restart. Just moments into the second half, Brad Carroll’s first touch volley went just over the bar. Nic Evangelinos’ free kick was deflected before landing on the netting.

Charlie Bailey was bundled in the box by Michael Turner and the referee was given no choice but to point to the spot. Evangelinos powered it home to double the Dollies’ lead.

Matty Cornish halved City’s lead with a nice side-footer effort, and couldn’t equalised minutes later. He was bearing down on goal from the right hand side of the 18-yard box but his shot was kept out by Waller.

Matthew Tweedley had only just come on as a substitute when his long range driven effort smashed against the post.

Lancaster’s next game is away against Liversedge on Tuesday (March 7).
