Morecambe darts star Dave Chisnall's doubling was the difference as he earned a straight sets first round win over Fallon Sherrock at the world championship.
Chizzy had a 47 per cent success rate on his doubles while the 'Queen of the Palace' was left rueing a number of missed opportunities in their clash at the Alexandra Palace in London.
Former PDC world semi-finalist Chisnall, seeded 21, scraped through the first set by three legs to two, then took out a magnificent 160 finish to go two sets ahead.
Sherrock, who shot to fame in 2020 when she became the first woman to win a match at the worlds, had chances to win set three but the number 21 seed fell over the line with a double seven.
Chisnall averaged 89.66 to Sherrock's 84.83.
"I'm buzzing, to be fair," said Chizzy afterwards.
"Everybody knows it's been a bad year for me.
"I said to Fallon, if you'd hit your doubles it could have been a lot tighter. She could have won the first set 3-1.
"I'm pleased and I can only get better.
"If I get my scoring well and hit 47 per cent on the doubles, I've got a great chance."
Chisnall, originally from St Helens, has lived in Morecambe for many years.
The 45-year-old reached the BDO World Darts Championship Final in 2010 and the PDC semi-finals in 2021, and is three times a quarter finalist.
He next plays Ricardo Pietrezcko from Germany in the second round on Saturday afternoon.
