We remember when music legend Tina Turner - who has died aged 83 - performed live at Lancaster University.
The gig took place on February 25 1984 in the Great Hall during the height of her incredible career.
It was during an era when Lancaster University played host to some of the biggest names in music, having also promoted shows by The Who, Paul McCartney and Wings, Bob Marley and the Wailers and many more over the previous years.
Barry Lucas from Morecambe was entertainments manager at the university at the time and responsible for booking these big name artists.
In his book 'When Rock Went to College: Legends Live at Lancaster University 1969-1985' he recalled the night when Tina Turner performed in Lancaster.
"Of all the acts to appear in Lancaster, Tina, in some ways, was the most remarkable and summed up what had happened to that small, new university in a mad 14 years.
"By (1984) audiences at Lancaster were spoilt and used to a steady procession of the world's superstars.
"But as of January, we had no major star in place for the rest of the academic year."
Barry and his friend Geoff Campbell went down to London to "chat up a few agents and promoters" and out of the blue, were offered Tina Turner who was in the midst of a major comeback. At the time, she'd just released 'Let's Stay Together' which was a worldwide hit and was beginning a sell-out UK tour.
"The interest and demand generated was immense," he said.
"Mick Byron of Byron's Hair in Lancaster had six hair industry bigwigs (sorry) driving up from London. Could I do ANYTHING? He would pay ANYTHING!
"A senior police officer rang me: 'I know it's a sell-out but could you get a couple of CID in the projection box at the back of the hall?'
"'Oh OK, I suppose so, anything for the Old Bill.
"'Great. There's 14 of us coming up. Thanks!'"
Barry said the show was "brilliant" with around 2,000 people attending.
TIna was known as 'the Queen of Rock n Roll' with hits including River Deep Mountain High, Nutbush City Limits, What's Love Got To Do With It, The Best, Steamy Windows, Private Dancer and James Bond theme GoldenEye. Her death was announced on Wednesday.
