Tributes have been paid after the death of a lifelong supporter and former director of Morecambe Football Club.

David Brockbank has died at the age of 80, the club has announced.

Mr Brockbank was a familiar face at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium and was a director of the club from 2014 to 2018.

"Morecambe Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former director and lifelong supporter, David Brockbank," said a statement from the club on Tuesday.

"Our thoughts are with David’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."

Rod Taylor, director and former chairman of Morecambe FC, said Mr Brockbank was a "top gentleman and a true Shrimp".

"David was an unassuming, kindly man with a very generous nature," said Mr Taylor.

"Mike Hinchcliffe, Graham Howse and I visited David a couple of weeks ago, and guess what was the main topic of our nearly two-hour visit? Yes, football and his beloved Morecambe FC.

"David followed the Shrimps since the Lancashire Combination days of 1957.

"He was a respected and valued colleague on the board of directors and will be sorely missed at the Mazuma Stadium. RIP, my friend."

The club said that Mr Brockbank's funeral will be on Thursday December 11 at 12.30pm at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium.

The cortege will depart the Mazuma Mobile Stadium at around noon.

Following the service, a celebration of his amazing life will be held at his beloved Morecambe Football Club.
