Tributes have been paid following the death of a "dedicated and hard-working" city councillor who served on the council for Carnforth.
Councillor Paul Gardner, who represented Carnforth and Millhead for Labour, was on Lancaster City Council from 2003-07, from 2011-15 and was re-elected in May 2023.
“It is with great sadness that we heard of the recent sad passing of Councillor Paul Gardner," said Councillor Roger Dennison, mayor Lancaster, who described him as "a dedicated and hard-working councillor".
“He worked tirelessly on behalf of his constituents in the Carnforth and Millhead area of the district. His loss will be felt by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
“My sincere condolences on behalf of Lancaster City Council go to all of his friends and family at this sad time.”
Posting on Facebook, former councillor Darren Clifford said Councillor Gardner, a football fan who followed both Morecambe FC and Coventry City, was a "man of principle who was never happier than debating politics with a cordial pint".
