Train services have been cancelled - affecting passengers at Lancaster and Oxenholme - following a derailment.
No trains are running on the West Coast Main Line between Preston and Scotland until at least 2pm on Thursday.
Avanti West Coast said this was due to a freight derailment blocking the line and passengers have been advised not to travel between Preston and Scotland on Thursday.
"Due to a derailed train between Oxenholme Lake District and Penrith North Lakes fewer trains are able to run on all lines," said a spokesperson for Avanti West Coast.
"Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes. Disruption is expected until 2pm on May 30."
Services running from or through Lancaster to Glasgow Central, Edinburgh, Preston and London Euston have been cancelled on Thursday morning, and up until at least 4.30pm.
The West Coast Main Line between London Euston and Glasgow/Edinburgh, which travels through Lancaster and Oxenholme, is one of the busiest mixed-traffic railway routes in Europe, carrying a mixture of intercity rail, regional rail, commuter rail and rail freight traffic.
