Rail users through North Lancashire and Morecambe Bay face disruption this week due to strikes and an overtime ban.
Members of the train drivers' union Aslef will walk out over the next few days, in addition to a six-day overtime ban which began on Bank Holiday Monday, in an ongoing dispute over pay and conditions.
Drivers from Avanti West Coast take action tomorrow (May 8), and those from Northern Trains and TransPennine Express on Thursday (May 9).
The overtime ban also means drivers will not accept any extra shifts which are usually vital to the smooth running of the network.
There will be cancellations, delays and no services, while services that do run are also expected to start later and finish earlier.
Passengers are advised to check before travelling.
Avanti West Coast
Do not attempt to travel with Avanti West Coast on Wednesday 8 May as they will not be running any services on any route.
Avanti West Coast services on the days either side of the strike will also be affected, along with industrial action impacting other train companies throughout the week, so check your entire journey before you travel.
If you booked tickets to travel on a strike day before the industrial action was announced on 22 April, you can claim a full, fee-free refund from your point of purchase or use them to travel on alternative dates.
Online journey planners now accurately reflect Wednesday 8 May's lack of Avanti West Coast train service and amended timetables for Tuesday 7, Thursday 9, Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May.
Northern
There will be no Northern services on Thursday 9 May.
Additional disruption is expected between 6 May - 11 May, due to action short of strike called by ASLEF where some short notice amendments may take place.
If travelling with Northern, or connecting onto other services across the country, check before you travel as industrial action may affect multiple parts of your journey.
Some Northern services are expected to be very busy on routes shared with other train operators.
TransPennine Express
Thursday 9 May, do not attempt to travel on a TransPennine Express service as they will not be running any services.
Disruption is also likely on days before and after strike action. You are advised to plan carefully for any rail journeys as services may start later and finish earlier than usual.
Action short of strike means ASLEF members will withdraw from working overtime on these dates. Although we plan to run our normal timetable (6-8 & 10-11 May), we expect action short of a strike to cause significant disruption to journeys. There will be some alterations to evening services on 8 May and to early morning services on 10 May.
Services during action short of a strike may be altered or cancelled on the night before or morning of your journey.
Customers who booked tickets to travel on the strike day (9 May) before the strike was announced on Monday 22 April can claim a full, fee-free refund from their point of purchase.
Tickets that are dated between Tuesday 7 May- Thursday 9 May that have been booked before Monday 22 April can be used any time up until Monday 13 May (inclusive).
Tickets will not be valid on London Underground services.
