A major revamp for a travellers' site in Morecambe has been given the thumbs up.
The plans to knock down existing buildings on the 19-pitch Mellishaw Park site and replace them with new ones were approved unanimously at a meeting on Monday.
The site has been in a state of disrepair for a number of years and the accommodation is well below modern standards.
Lancaster City Council planning regulatory committee considered the planning application during a meeting at Morecambe Town Hall.
Councillor Keith Budden asked if the residents of the site were happy and had been consulted about the plans, as there would be "quite a bit of disruption" during the upgrade work.
Petra Williams, planning officer, said: "We spoke to some of the residents and they are saying 'please hurry up and get this done'."
Councillor Mandy King said: "It definitely needs doing. I worked on this site 20 years ago and it was in a poor state then. It's a very positive move."
The site is owned and run by Lancaster City Council, and is the only council owned Gypsy and Traveller site in the District.
