Three men accused of ‘lamping’ near Lancaster

Three men were stopped by police over the weekend on suspicion of lamping in the Lune Valley.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, officers from Lancashire Police’s rural task force, aided by response officers, stopped the group, who they believed were illegally lamping in the Lune Valley.

Their car and equipment were seized and the issue will be fully investigated, and where possible charges sought.

Lamping is the term given to the illegal use of lamps or spotlights at night to help hunt down wild animals, to reveal habitats of animals such as rabbits and foxes.

The practice is only legal when done by farmers and landowners, for the purposes of land management.
