Safety warning after children seen climbing scaffolding on buildings in Morecambe

Police in Morecambe say they’re experiencing a number of incidents where children are climbing scaffolding on residential buildings in the West End.

They’re urging parents to remind their kids of the dangers of what might happen if they climb scaffolding, and also say steps are being taken to make it more difficult for such incidents.

A spokesperson for Morecambe’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said: ‘’We have seen a large increase in scaffolding being erected in the West End. Unfortunately this has created a big problem for ourselves with an increase in anti-social Behaviour.

‘’The majority of the buildings are 4-5 storeys high which makes it more of a concern.

‘’To date we have contacted Health and Safety Executive who will be looking into any possible issues that are making it easier for the youths to gain access such as ladders been left in situ etc.

‘’Further patrols will be in and around the West End when possible to deter any further issues and prevent any accidents.

‘’Please also stress to your children where you can the dangers of what can happen if they climb scaffolding.’’
