A public consultation has been launched on plans to build a link road between South Lancaster and the M6.
Proposed for an area to the south of Lancaster University, this would provide a link road and road under the West Coast Main Line to access the proposed Bailrigg Garden Village.
The proposed scheme aims to support development coming forward within the Lancaster South Broad Location for Growth that is identified in Lancaster City Council’s adopted Local Plan.
It would connect south Lancaster to the M6, and include a Park and Ride facility at Hazelrigg Lane.
This scheme is intended to be submitted as a planning application accompanied by an Environmental Impact Assessment in summer 2023.
The public consultation runs until March 22 and will provide the opportunity for residents to make comments on the scheme.
The consultation will include the publication of drawings and descriptions of the proposed scheme and temporary working areas, options for the bridge over the Lancaster Canal and the landscaping design.

There are also two consultation events are being held at Ellel Village Hall, where you will have the opportunity to view plans and drawings relating to the proposals, and to ask the project team questions.
These will be on Wednesday 8th March from 5pm to 8:30pm and Thursday 9th March from 9:30am to 5pm.
All comments will be read and analysed to inform the final design of the proposed scheme. A consultation report presenting the full results of the survey will be available on the project website later this year.
The final scheme will be submitted as a planning application supported by an Environmental Impact Assessment to the county council as the planning authority. This is expected to be submitted in summer 2023.
Lancashire County Council carried out a consultation exercise in October 2020 on six potential options for the link road to the M6 Junction 33 and its reconfiguration. The results of this were published in March 2021.
Since then, additional environmental surveys have been carried out and the design has been updated to accommodate additional technical requirements.
The County Council previously consulted on the preferred routes for the South Lancaster to M6 Road Scheme in 2020.
