The prospective buyers of Morecambe Football Club say a latest attempt to move the sale process on has been thwarted after the current owners cancelled a mediation meeting.
Panjab Warriors claim that Bond Group cancelled a proposed meeting in central London yesterday.
Morecambe Football Club is currently suspended from the National League as the ongoing crisis at the club continues.
The men's first team are unable to start the new league season, which was due to get underway today (Saturday August 9), away at Boston United.
The club could be expelled from the league altogether after a meeting on August 20.
In a statement, they said: ‘’Panjab Warriors have made consistent efforts to engage constructively in order to conclude the long-overdue sale of Morecambe Football Club.
‘’We agreed to a meeting facilitated by an independent mediator, someone chosen by them but mutually known and trusted by both sides. We awaited confirmation of the time and location.''
‘’On Wednesday morning, the nominated mediator informed us that Bond Group had agreed to attend the meeting in Central London on Thursday. However, despite this assurance, we were informed later that evening that they had once again cancelled the meeting, providing weak and unconvincing excuses.
‘’Yesterday morning, the independent mediator confirmed that he will no longer be facilitating discussions, citing a complete lack of sincerity and commitment from them.
‘’This ongoing pattern of avoidance must end. We urge Jason and Colin to stop prolonging the suffering of everyone impacted by the current crisis at Morecambe FC.
‘’The time has come to complete the sale that has already been agreed, so the club, its staff, supporters, and community can finally move forward.’’
Beyond Radio has made multiple attempts to contact Bond Group, but have not received any response at time of publication of this article.
Staff at the club were paid only a third of their salaries in June and none in July, and a proposed sale of Morecambe FC has stalled.
Bills have been unpaid amid the financial crisis gripping the club, and the Shrimps are under a transfer embargo, preventing them from signing new players.
