Police are investigating after a burglary at a church in Lancaster.

The break-in occurred at Hope Church on Queen Street on Sunday night/Monday morning.

A police spokesperson said the burglary was under investigation.

A post on the Hope Church Facebook page said: "Someone broke into Church on Sunday night, caused quite a lot of damage and took quite a few things.

"We just wanted to say whoever you are, we forgive you and prayed for you yesterday.

"We wished you had just come and asked for help, we would have helped you, that's why we are here.

"We still believe in justice, not to get revenge but to protect others, so we have been working with the police in the hope we can stop this from happening to someone else.

"Thank you so much to everyone who has already reached out to help and who came down yesterday afternoon to clear up. You are wonderful people!"
