Police appeal for witnesses after two women are seriously hurt in car crash

Police have appealed for witnesses after two women were seriously injured in a road crash near Lancaster.

The driver and front seat passenger of a Volkswagen suffered serious injuries in the collision, which happened on Monday morning at around 8.37am on the A683 Lancaster Road near Caton.

Firefighters freed both women from the car and they were taken to hospital.

Their car had been in collision with the trailer of a Scania truck. The HGV driver was unhurt.

Sgt Charlotte Gorst, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident itself or who has dashcam or CCTV which could help, to get in touch."
