Two men have been jailed for violently attacking a man on the street in Lancaster.
Alex McKenzie and Alexander Burgmans assaulted their victim on the Ryelands estate in January 2024.
The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered four fractures to bones in his face and required surgery.
McKenzie and Burgmans launched their attack around 3.30pm on 2nd January 2024 on Denny Avenue.
As the victim walked past the house of a friend of McKenzie, he heard three people shout: ‘he’s there, get him’.
McKenzie struck him in the face with a metal bar, that causing him to fall to the ground and briefly blacking out.
When he came round, Burgmans and another man were pinning him to the ground, with McKenzie hitting him another few times in the face with the metal bar.
McKenzie was heard to say: “I’ve got you now ain’t I lad.”
An investigation was launched, with McKenzie arrested in South Yorkshire in February this year.
McKenzie, 23, and Burgmans, 43, who are both of no fixed address, were found guilty by a jury at Preston Crown Court in October of Section 18 causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
When they appeared for sentence before the same court last week (5th December), McKenzie was jailed for five-and-a-half years and Burgmans for five years.
Det Con Beth Andrews of Lancaster CID, said: “This was a serious attack on a man in the street with a weapon.
“Violence on the streets will not be tolerated, and Lancashire Police will work tirelessly to investigate assaults and bring the offenders to justice.”
