'No further action' as police end investigation into Morecambe & Lunesdale election allegations

Lizzi Collinge, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale

Police said "no criminal offences have been committed" after completing an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Morecambe and Lunesdale general election campaign.

Lancashire Police received a complaint in December last year about alleged irregularities in the campaign in the Morecambe and Lunesdale constituency leading up to the parliamentary elections in July 2024.

The complaint is believed to relate to a visit to the constituency on a 'battlebus' by Angela Rayner, now Deputy Prime Minister, during the run-up to the July 4 election, and a subsequent election expenses claim submitted by Lizzi Collinge, MP for Morecambe & Lunesdale.

A Labour Party spokesperson said at the time: "All necessary declarations have been made in line with the rules, including with regards to the 'Change' battlebus."

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said today: "Following a thorough and proportionate investigation, we are satisfied no criminal offences have been committed and no further action will be taken.

"All parties have been notified, and the matter is now closed."

Ms Collinge was elected as MP during the general election of July 4 2024, in which Labour won a landslide victory.
