A new mayor-elect for the Lancaster and Morecambe district has been chosen.
Councillor Tricia Heath will take over as mayor later this year, subject to her being re-elected as a councillor in the local elections in May.
The mayor of Lancaster changes every year and is a role awarded to the most senior member of Lancaster City Council.
Councillor Heath is a member of the Morecambe Bay Independents and represents Poulton ward on the city council.
She is also the cabinet member for economic recovery, a member of Morecambe Town Council, and a former leader of the city council.
Councillor Heath was formally voted in as mayor-elect at a meeting of Lancaster City Council held at Morecambe Town Hall on Wednesday.
Councillor Geoff Knight, moving the recommendation that Councillor Heath become mayor-elect, said: "She will be an excellent mayor, she has many years of experience on this council."
Councillor Tim Hamilton-Cox seconded the motion, saying: "I'm sure Tricia will be an excellent ambassador for the council."
The current mayor is Councillor Joyce Pritchard.
