A second children’s book based on the adventures of a teddy bear who becomes a Lancaster police officer will be published in March.
‘Inspector Ted – Meet the Team’ will be released on March 2, as part of World Book Day, and features a number of different officers and roles, so young people can get an insight into the varied jobs within a police force.
The book will raise money for Team Reece, the Lancaster children’s brain tumour and cancer charity, that was set up in memory of Royal Lancaster Grammar pupil, 13-year-old Reece Holt, who passed away in 2019.
The first ‘Inspector Ted’ book was written by Lancaster detective, DI Adie Knowles, in 2017, and raised more than £2,000 for local charity, Unique Kids & Co.
It features the true story of a teddy bear who was found in Morecambe and goes on many adventures with his local police officers.
The teddy on which the book is based was found in Morecambe by another officer, and despite attempts to reunite the toy with the owner, no one ever came forward – so the teddy ‘joined the team’ and soon became Inspector Ted, and was adopted as the force’s mascot.
As well as raising money for a great local cause, the book aims to engage with young children and educate them about the role of the police.
‘’Inspector Ted gets mentioned to me on a regular basis, and people often ask me where is he and is there going to be a second book,’’ Adie told Beyond Radio.
‘’The first book raised a great sum for a great charity, Unique Kids and Co, based in the West End, who assist disabled children and their families.
‘’I’ve written the second book and it will be produced in time for World Book Day.
‘’The second book will raise funds for Team Reece, and we’ll also look to produce some more copies of the first book, that sold out.
‘’We hope to sell it as widely as possible to generate as much money as possible for a great local cause.''
