Motorists go baa-rmy after sheep on carriageway close M6

There was more travel misery on the M6 this afternoon after sheep escaped onto the carriageway near Lancaster.

The motorway was closed both ways between junctions 32 and 33 for more than two hours after an accident involving a trailer carrying the animals, that overturned, allowing the sheep to escape.

The closure allowed the animals to be rounded up, and alternative transportation found so they could be moved on.

All lanes have now reopened, but traffic is still slow moving, with residual delays.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at 1.45pm today (August 10) to reports an animal trailer had overturned on the M6.

‘’A closure was put in place to allow for sheep to be safely rescued.

‘’Many thanks for your patience.’’
