An innovative book sharing scheme set up by a youngster from Morecambe is already proving to be a huge success.
Six-year-old Mia-Rose Gallacher, who attends St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, set up the idea over the Easter holidays, called ‘Morecambe Look For A Book’, a fun and free way to encourage young people to read.
The idea is children’s books are bagged up and hidden across Morecambe to find. Once discovered, the books are then put back in the back and rehidden for someone else to find and enjoy.
Participants can join this Facebook group where clues can be found when books have been hidden.
‘’She wanted her used books to go to other children who may enjoy reading them and her thought was a book hunt,’’ said her mum, Traceyann.
‘’It’s a way to get kids out and about and maybe find a new read.
‘’So with that, Morecambe Look For A Book was born.
‘’With such a big push at the moment to help kids read more I think this may have come at a crucial time after lockdown.
‘’Mia would love for as many children as possible within the local community to be able to take part and have fun finding new books and re-hiding once finished.
‘’So far, my partner Simon and my other children, Maisie aged 12 and Matthew aged 4, have hidden close to 200 books.
‘’We are trying to get the word out and to encourage other children to take part possibly hiding one of their own books as well.’’
