Morecambe woman's delight at new electric wheelchair after Beyond Radio appeal

Jean Grey

A woman from Morecambe whose lifeline electric wheelchair was stolen says she is delighted after our appeal led to her getting a new one.

Jean Grey has a new chair after a mobility company boss from Morecambe spotted our story about the theft from outside her home in the West End.

Jean said she is really happy with the new electric powered chair worth around £7000, which she only had to pay £450 for.

The chair was supplied by Stephen Wright of Custom Mobility@Home Ltd.

Jean told us the theft on August 21 had left her struggling to get out and about due to mobility issues and a heart condition.

"It's my lifeline," said Jean last month.

"I don't think I'll see it again. I've lost my confidence. It makes life so much easier."

Jean uses an electric wheelchair to get out to volunteer at the International Aid Trust shop in Carnforth, and to attend classes at More Music, and the West End Players theatre group.

"After her electric wheelchair, which she relied on as a lifeline, was stolen from outside her home, we were determined to assist Jean," said Mr Wright.

"Our goal was to find the perfect mobility solution for her, and we successfully provided her with an electric powered wheelchair. With this newfound mobility, Jean can once again enjoy venturing outdoors."
