Memorial bench for little George to be unveiled by John McGuinness

George Hinds

A memorial bench in tribute to a two-year-old Heysham boy who lost his life in a gas explosion will be unveiled by motorcycle legend John McGuinness MBE.

The bench in memory of little George Hinds will be officially unveiled in Happy Mount Park in Morecambe on Saturday July 9 at 10.30am.

George died in a gas explosion on Mallowdale Avenue in Heysham in May 2021.

Heysham man Steve Trainor, who co-ordinated the fundraising for the bench, said that "members of the public were absolutely tremendous and raised the money for the bench, over £1,000, in just two weeks".

John McGuinness, also known as 'The Morecambe Missile', is one of the UK's greatest ever motorcycle racers with 23 wins at the iconic TT Isle of Man circuit.
