Investigations continue after a gunshot was fired at a front door in Heysham in what police believe was a 'targeted attack'.
A man approached a property on Heysham Road after arriving with another man in a red Skoda Fabia, fired at the front door and fled, on Monday afternoon.
An eye-witness told Beyond Radio she heard a loud bang and then saw a man running into Sefton Road from Heysham Road carrying what appeared to be a rifle.
Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack and do not believe there is any wider threat to the public. Nobody was hurt.
The Skoda Fabia has since been found in the Manchester area.
Detectives and crime scene investigators remain at the scene on Heysham Road and in Manchester.
Police, who were called to the incident at around 4pm on Monday, say they will continue to have increased high-visibility patrols in the area to offer reassurance to residents, and anybody with concerns or information relevant to the investigation is welcome to speak to an officer.
Det Supt Becky Smith, of Lancashire Police, said: “We know this incident has caused concern in the community but we would like to reassure residents that incidents such as this are extremely rare and we are taking it extremely seriously and have a dedicated team of officers working tirelessly to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
“We know last night people in the area had a lot of questions about the incident, and that there was a good deal of speculation on social media. However, we are now in a position to reassure you that we do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.
“We are also appealing for information about the incident. In particular we would like to hear from anybody who saw the red Skoda Fabia approaching or leaving Heysham Road at the time of the incident or anywhere else in the Heysham/Morecambe area towards the motorway network, anybody who was in the area and may have caught the car on dashcam or other footage, or anybody with information about who the two men in the car might have been.
“It’s vital that we identify those responsible as soon as possible so I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us straight away."
