Major clean-up of popular Morecambe Prom crabbing pool is "almost complete"

Work taking place at Bare crabbing pool earlier this week

A major clean-up job on a popular crabbing pool on Morecambe Promenade is nearly finished.

Work to remove the build-up of sand and sediment that has been washed into Bare crabbing pool over the last few years has been taking place this week.

Sediment has been removed and placed on nearby rocks for the tides to take away as they wash over and fill the pool at the next high tide.

A Lancaster City Council spokesperson said that any sediment washed back into the pool will be flushed out the following day when the sluice for the pool is opened, allowing it to drain and continue to clean the pool.

"There has been more material to remove than anticipated and it may take a few tides for it to completely disappear from the adjacent rocks," she said.

"Future years will see the pool cleaned more regularly so that it can be used as it was intended by the local community and visitors alike."

The Marine Road East pool is popular for catching crabs and sailing model boats.
