The M6 will be closed for most of the day between Junctions 36 and 38 after an overturned lorry caught fire.
The northbound carriageway has been closed between the Crooklands Interchange and Tebay, and two of three lanes have also been closed southbound for recovery work.
Emergency services including Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were at the scene following the incident on Thursday morning.
A Cumbria Police spokesperson said the lorry driver sustained injuries, but nothing described as serious and was taken to hospital for a check up.
Long delays are expected.

Road users should exit at J36 and follow the route marked with a hollow diamond symbol on local road signs:
• Exit J36, Farleton, take A590 westbound to the Brettargh Holt junction
• Follow A591 to Plumgarths Roundabout. Take the third exit, A5284 to Kendal.
• Follow A5284 Windermere Road / Stricklandgate, turning left with All traffic onto A6 Sandes Avenue.
• Follow the A6 northbound out of Kendal towards Shap Toll Bar junction
• At Shap Toll Bar junction turn right onto the B6261 and then turn left at M6 J39, Shap

Stagecoach bus company announced on Thursday they had cancelled the 755 bus service between Morecambe bus station and Bowness due to the motorway closure and congestion. They apologised for any inconvenience.
