Tributes have been paid following the death of a long-serving Heysham councillor and former mayor.
Mike Greenall, who was mayor of Lancaster in 2021/22 and a Morecambe Bay Independent councillor for more than 20 years, passed away earlier this month.
Mr Greenall served as an MBI councillor in Heysham South from 1999 to 2015, and again from 2019 to 2023.
The Morecambe Bay Independents paid tribute to Mike on their Facebook page.
"We’re sad to report the passing of our colleague Mike Greenall.
"Mike was a hard-working MBI councillor.
"There will be a service to commemorate Mike at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium on Monday 2 March at 2.30pm."
Heysham Labour councillor Colin Hartley, posting on the Heysham Labour Facebook page, said: "Sad to report that Honorary Alderman Mike Greenall died this morning (12th February).
"Mike had been an MBI councillor in the Heysham South ward from 1999 - 2015 and again 2019 - 2023. He was Lancaster's Mayor in the 2021 - 2022 year.
"He was a strong supporter of Heysham Mossgate Sports & Community Centre.
"Our thoughts are with his wife Margaret, his family and friends."
Councillor Margaret Pattison, the current mayor of Lancaster, paid tribute to Mr Greenall and Jean Yates, another former mayor who died this month.
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of two former mayors, Jean Yates and Mike Greenall, both of whom gave so much of their lives to serving our community.
“Their deaths mark the loss of two dedicated public servants who each shared a strong commitment to public service. As councillors and as mayors, they served with integrity, dignity and pride.
“On behalf of the council and the wider community, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of Jean and Mike. They will both be remembered with gratitude and respect for the lasting contributions they made, and for the example they set in service to others.”
