Two HGVs full of donations have been sent to help with the Ukraine relief effort from Carnforth’s Canal Turn pub.
Last week the pub launched a collection appeal working with Carnforth Caravans to send items to Ukraine, with the venue inundated with items, so much so that help was needed to transport them all from the pub to the two HGVs that headed off the Polish/Ukrainian border.
The pub teamed up with local firms F. Edmondson & Sons Transport and O’Reilly Transport, rallying the local community and ensuring donations reached the main HGVs, situated at nearby Keer Park, with a small army of volunteers working hard over the last few days to load up the mountain of donations that had accumulated inside from generous locals.

Landlord of The Canal Turn, Bill Johnston, said: ‘’Thanks to our amazing volunteers, regulars and customers for their help.
‘’Thanks also to Robert Staveley (‘Man and Van’), and also Uniform & Leisurewear Company Ltd for their vehicle support with the last minute transfer to artics from F. Edmondson & Sons and O`Reilly Transport.
‘’We plan on regrouping next week to come up with a streamlined plan for the hopeful next trip, once we've consulted with all partners and put learning from the last few days in to place. Thanks to everyone for your incredible support.
‘’We’ve seen such amazing community action in just three days. Together we are helping so many people during the worst imaginable crisis.’’
