Last ever St John's Hospice Moonlight Walk expected to raise £30,000

The last ever St John's Hospice Moonlight Walk is expected to raise around £30,000.

Lisa Morgan, fundraising manager at the Lancaster hospice, said that funds were still being counted but they estimated the final total to be around the £30,000 mark.

The hospice has also confirmed that last Saturday's event is expected to be the final Moonlight Walk.

Sign-ups for this year's event, held on June 11, had been less than hoped for, although a late surge boosted participant numbers to around the 500 mark.

The hospice is now looking for feedback from the local community and its supporters on the type of events that could replace the Moonlight Walk in future.

The Beyond Radio team were delighted to be a part of the build-up to the annual community walk on Saturday.

Local samba drumming band Samba Espirito also performed as walkers gathered at the hospice before the walk started at 10pm.

Beforehand, participants also took part in a warm-up with Chantelle and Lorraine from Salt Ayre Leisure Centre.
