A Labour councillor has won a Lancaster City Council by-election in the West End of Morecambe.
Margaret Elizabeth Pattison received 555 votes, defeating Jake Aaron Ross Perkins (Liberal Democrats) who received 479 and Colin Hewitt (Conservative) who received 124.
Turnout was 20.97 per cent. The electorate is 5545 and 1163 ballot papers were issued.
The seat was vacant following the death of Councillor Pattison's Labour colleague, Janice Hanson, earlier this year.
Councillor Pattison was previously on the city council representing Heysham North ward until losing her seat in the 2019 General Election.
She is also a Lancashire county councillor for Morecambe Central and Morecambe town councillor for Out Moss Lane ward, making her the only councillor to sit on all three of Morecambe Town, Lancaster City and Lancashire County councils.
Labour remains the largest group on the city council, with 16 members. The Greens have 11, Conservatives 9, Morecambe Bay Independents 6, Independent Group 5, Bay Independent Group 4, Eco-Socialist Independents 4 and Liberal Democrats 4, meaning there is no overall control of the council.
