Lancaster Road Primary is celebrating its 90th birthday and Beyond Radio has been chatting to pupils and teachers about the history of the school.
We were invited along to meet the children and staff at the school on Lancaster Road in Morecambe, which first opened on Friday July 1 1932.
Pupils from the school council spoke about how they were celebrating the 90th birthday.
LISTEN to Zane, Harrison, Riley, Lennon, Betsy, Lucy and Maicee-Mai (pictured below), and assistant head teacher Susie Hill:

Some of the current teachers are also past pupils of the school.
Stacey Lambert, now a reception class teacher, started at the school as a pupil in 1984.
Annie Johnson began at Lancaster Road as a pupil in 1995. She now works at the school alongside her mum Debbie, who was a pupil from 1966 to 1971.
LISTEN to Stacey Lambert, Debbie Johnson and Annie Johnson (pictured below) talking about their memories of the school:

Lancaster Road has also been celebrating its most famous pupil, Eric Bartholomew, who attended the school in the 1930s.
He later achieved fame as the comedian Eric Morecambe, of the Morecambe and Wise comedy double act.
There is a photo of Eric during his school days on display in the school corridors (see below).

To celebrate the 90th birthday, the pupils have decorated classroom doors with the theme of different decades through the school's history.
Here are pupils Jessie and Harry, Maicee-Mai and Lennon, and Zane and Betsy with some of the beautifully decorated doors.

The school also has a display of class photos through the years, showing past pupils and teachers going all the way back to 1932!

Lancaster Road school was built at a cost of £16,000 and was opened on Friday July 1 1932 by Councillor A.W Gorton, chairman of the education committee.
The Morecambe and Heysham Visitor and Lancaster Advertiser said at the time: "Parents residing south of Poulton Bridge may consider themselves fortunate that there is now such a splendid school to which to send their children until they are 11 years of age."
The school's first head master was Mr C.T Brammer. Today, Lancaster Road's head teacher is Mrs Kirsty Sutton.
It was also a day of nostalgia for me, having myself been a Lancaster Road pupil from 1976 to 1983!

*The school will hold an Open Day for the Reception Class 2023 intake on Saturday October 8 between 9am and 1pm. Please call the school on 01524 410914 to book a slot to visit the school.
