INTERVIEW: Leading light of Morecambe Brass Band honoured to receive British Empire Medal

A champion of Morecambe Brass Band has spoken to Beyond Radio about being awarded a British Empire Medal in the King's New Year's Honours List.

Bernard Vause visited the studio to talk about being recognised for his services to music and the community of Morecambe.

Mr Vause, 83, has been involved in Morecambe Brass Band for half a century, currently as President, librarian and euphonium player.

He has also been chairman, secretary, helped to set up the Morecambe Youth Band, and was instrumental in the band receiving the first ever National Lottery grant for any arts group in the UK.

Bernard spoke about how he found out about his honour, his longtime love of music, his 50 years with Morecambe Band and much more in the interview on our weekly Beyond the Headlines local news show.
