Here is everything you need to know about how train strikes on Sunday will affect Morecambe FC fans travelling back from the Chelsea FA Cup game.
Morecambe fans are travelling down to London for the FA Cup Third Round game with the Premier League giants on Saturday (kick off 3pm).
But strike action by train managers on Sunday January 12 will mean a reduced timetable on Avanti West Coast main line services from London Euston, affecting any supporters planning to travel back home by train on that day.
There will be one train per hour to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Preston, and a limited service between Glasgow and Carlisle (through Lancaster and Oxenholme).
There are also rail replacement buses are running between Preston and Carlisle, which includes to Lancaster and Oxenholme, due to planned engineering works.
Trains will operate during limited hours, with the first train of the day departing Euston after 8am and the last train of the day from Euston departing before 5pm.
Strike action is continuing on Sundays until May 25, as train managers for Avanti are in a dispute over rest day working.
An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: "The RMT union has announced strike action affecting Avanti West Coast on Sundays from 12 January to 25 May 2025.
"On these dates, our timetables and operating hours will be significantly reduced and trains that do run are expected to be busy.
"We recommend you travel either side of Sunday 12 January’s strike action due to the limited service we’re able to run as a result. Engineering work and football fixtures will also affect journeys across the rail network."
Kathryn O'Brien, Avanti's executive director of customer experience, said: "We're disappointed by the RMT calling strike action for an extended period when our customers may be working, visiting family and friends, or enjoying days out.
"As a result, they will face significantly disrupted journeys during this time.
"I would like to thank them for their patience and understanding.
"On the strike days, we'll have a reduced service, so customers with tickets for those days are strongly advised to travel on alternative dates or claim a full fee-free refund. We remain open to working with the RMT to resolve the dispute."
AN RMT spokesperson said: "Our members have resoundingly rejected Avanti's latest offers in two referendums and sustained strike action is now the only way to focus management's minds on reaching a negotiated settlement with the union."
