Further plans have been unveiled to convert part of a former bank overlooking Morecambe Bay into residential flats.
A planning application has gone in for four flats on the first floor of the former Nat West building on Marine Road Central in Morecambe.
The full application, to Lancaster City Council, is for "change of use and conversion of the first floor of former bank to four flats, erection of first floor side extensions and associated alterations to windows and doors".
The bank at 262 Marine Road Central closed in February 2024 and the premises then went up for auction.
It shut due to a decline in usage, and was one of a series of Nat West closures across the UK.
Earlier this year, the council granted planning permission to convert the ground floor into two separate commercial units.
A heritage statement submitted with the new application, says there would be "construction of a first-floor extension over the left-hand side (currently single storey), designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing roofline and proportions; conversion of the entire first floor (existing and extended area) into four self-contained residential flats; no changes to the front elevation or windows - all existing features on the Marine Road frontage will be retained in full; installation of new rear windows to match existing rear windows in material, design, and proportion; provision of on-site refuse and recycling storage and secure cycle parking; and minor internal alterations and modernisation for residential layout, with no impact on the external appearance from the front."
The statement says the development will "preserve the front façade and architectural features of the existing building; remove unsympathetic rear elements, enhancing the rear elevation and Conservation Area character; deliver high-quality residential accommodation, ensuring the property’s long-term viability; match all materials, scale, and detailing to the established character of the terrace; and maintain the visual integrity of the Conservation Area.
"Accordingly, the proposal will preserve and enhance the character and appearance of the Conservation Area while supporting the sustainable reuse of a valuable local building and contributing positively to the vitality of Morecambe town centre.
The applicant is Mr Kandasamy, of Sivika Associate Ltd.
Lancaster City Council will make a decision on whether to grant planning permission, in due course.
