A family of four was rescued after being cut off by the fast-incoming tide near The Battery in Morecambe.
The family had gone out onto the beach on Wednesday during the fine weather and were unaware of the fast-moving tide sweeping around them.
An emergency call was made to the Morecambe lifeboat crew at around 7.51pm on Wednesday.
Both the hovercraft and inshore lifeboat were already out on Morecambe Bay doing a training exercise, and raced to the scene.
They found the family and brought them onto the lifeboat, transferring them to the hovercraft.
A lifeboat spokesperson said: "The family had stated they had gone out in the beach enjoying the fine weather but were completely unaware of the tide sweeping around them."
Steve Wilson, Lifeboat Operations Manager, said “Morecambe’s coastline is unique to most across the UK in that the tide will quickly encircle you as it begins to come in.
"We urge anyone venturing out on the bay to be aware of the tide times and ensure they are safely at shore as the tide starts to come in."
